The Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF) applies in Europe, the Maghreb and in the Middle East. OTIF Member States apply the majority of the appendices to COTIF (CIV, CIM, RID, CUV, CUI, APTU and ATMF Uniform Rules). A summary of the geographical scope of the convention is shown below.
To limit the effects of the fact that three OTIF Member States (Ireland, Italy and Sweden) have not yet ratified COTIF 1999, the CIT has set up a declaration for members to apply the CIV and CIM Uniform Rules to traffic to, via or from these states on a contractual basis. A list of the undertakings that have made such a declaration is to be found below.
