UIC Wagon Users Study Group (WU SG) meeting and CIT input in this work

Under the CIT-UIC cooperation agreement, CIT acts as a consultant to UIC and assists its members with specific issues relating to wagon law and the application of the provisions of the General Contract of Use for Wagons (GCU).

The last meeting of the Wagon Users Study Group (WUSG) was held in Paris (UIC) on 12 May 2026 with an additional online meeting on the open points of the agenda organised on 2 June 2026.

These meetings were the opportunity for CIT to present the results from the roundtable discussion organised by the OTIF Secretariat on 15 April 2026 and the current issues at OTIF level, in particular further information on the ongoing revision of the CUV UR. A report from the OTIF Secretariat was presented during the 9th session of the OTIF Ad hoc Committee on 23 June 2026 in Bern, during which delegates considered how they wished Article 7 CUV to balance liabilities between the Parties (RU/keeper) and where they thought the burden of proving fault should sit. The debate took place on 23 June during a session in Bern and is the subject of a separate article in this CIT News 2/26.

CIT’s second important point of input in the UIC WU SG was on the preparation, coordination and organisation of the CIT – UIC Workshop on 7 October 2026 at CIT headquarters in Bern.
