Editorial
Dear CIT members,
The first six months of 2026 have now passed. It is time to take a brief look at the work carried out by the CIT General Secretariat and to announce some news for the coming second half of the year.
In January 2026, we launched the first CIT Webinar, attended by over 40 CIT members. Our aim was to draw up a detailed work schedule and present the work programme approved by the CIT General Assembly in November 2025.
February was short but a busy month, featuring meetings of the Data Protection Working Group, the first meeting of the CIV Working Group, and the meeting of the Expert Group on the Transport of Waste and other Special Transports.
The highlight of March was the meeting of the CIT CIM Committee, chaired by Julie Meunier of SNCF/Hexafret, which resulted in strategic and forward-looking decisions in the field of freight transport.
April brought us not only spring but also the first meeting of the CIT Executive Committee. Under the lead of our Chair, Maria Sack (DB), the CIT Executive Committee adopted statutory decisions with far-reaching implications for our association. Further information can be found in this issue of CIT NEWS.
May and June flew by, filled with numerous internal and external meetings such as the second meeting of the CIV Working Group and the first meeting of the CIM Working Group for 2026, besides the second meeting of the Expert Group on the Transport of Waste and other Special Transports. In the field of passenger transport, we have our hands full with the new EU Passenger Package. In freight transport, we are at the forefront of new legal developments at the interface between EU law and International COTIF law for digitalisation, multimodality and more. I can assure you that the articles in this issue of CIT NEWS are highly informative and well-founded in practice.
The future will show how European and International railway law will develop. That is why we intend to publish a Special edition: the forthcoming issue 3/2026 will be dedicated to legal practice and law in action as reflected in the relevant court decisions of European and national courts.
And now, enjoy the summer with CIT NEWS 2/2026 and stay linked to CIT for further news.
Yours,
Erik Evtimov
CIT Secretary General
